Course Description

Students are familiarized with a variety of theoretical perspectives on curriculum design and development, implementation, and evaluation. Curriculum, teaching, and learning will be applied to a variety of educational contexts and situations.

Learning outcomes

  • Critically reflect on their own perspectives on curriculum, teaching and learning.
  • Identify major historical perspectives and the evolution of theories related to curriculum.
  • Apply and analyze components of curriculum in diverse educational settings in Canada and internationally.
  • Identify major curricular trends in western and global contexts.
  • Critically respond to the perspectives and interpretations of others.
  • Synthesize perspectives on investigations and interpretations of curriculum development.
  • Apply learning from the course to curriculum development relevant to particular areas of study.
  • Engage in critical reflection on the UNDRIP (2007) and TRC Calls to Action (2015) related to education.
  • Approach curriculum development, teaching, and learning with Indigenous worldviews through critically informed perspectives.

Assessments

To successfully complete this course, students must achieve a passing grade of 70% or higher on the overall course, and 50% or higher on the mandatory final project.
