Course Description

This course is designed to promote the entry-level health professional's understanding, communication and application of foundational anatomy and physiology knowledge for the promotion of continuing physical health for people of all ages from birth to older adults. Foundational to the practice of health is awareness of body systems, recognition of body system changes across the lifespan. Students gain knowledge of appropriate interventions to maintain physical health and reduce the chances of disease from physiological dysfunction, and develop the ability to communicate this knowledge to others.

Learning outcomes

  • Increase their knowledge of inter-professional health terminology.
  • Describe the structure and function of cells, organs and body systems.
  • Distinguish between normal and altered anatomical and physiological health patterns across the life-span.
  • Explain fundamental disease prevention and health promotion strategies for all body systems across the life-span.
  • Advance participant communication skills with health professionals and individuals in relation to health and illness.

Assessments

Please be aware that should your course have a final exam, you are responsible for the fee to the online proctoring service, ProctorU, or to the in-person approved Testing Centre. Please contact exams@tru.ca with any questions about this.

To successfully complete this course, students must achieve a passing grade of 50% or higher on the course overall and 50% or higher on the mandatory final exam. However, students who use this course to satisfy any TRU Nursing Program requirements must achieve 60% or higher in the course overall and 60% or higher on the mandatory final exam.
