Course Description

This course is designed to meet the curriculum requirements for ABE "Provincial Level" physics. It is also designed to meet any secondary school Physics 12 requirements that are additional to the "Provincial Level" requirements. The principal topics in Senior Physics are kinematics in one and two dimensions; dynamics; energy, momentum, and equilibrium; electricity; magnetism, waves and optics. Approximately one-third of the course work consists of lab investigations using extensive video materials.

Learning outcomes

  • Collect, analyse, and integrate data related to the physical sciences
  • Use laws and principles of interrelationships between matter and energy
  • Apply acquired knowledge to solve problems

Note: PHYS 0601 covers the learning outcome for ABE Provincial Level (Grade 12) as listed in the Adult Basic Education Articulation Handbook found here: https://www.bctransferguide.ca/transfer-options/adult-basic-education/past-abe-guides/

Course topics

  • Module 1: Kinematics
  • Module 2: Dynamics
  • Module 3: Energy, Momentum, and Equilibrium
  • Module 4: Electricity
  • Module 5: Magnetism, Waves and Optics
  • Laboratory Component
  • There are a total of 12 labs. The labs are included in the assignments and each requires a formal lab report.
