VTEC 1815 - Veterinary Clinical Work and Correspondence 1

Course Description

Students’ essential skills, as well as, professional communication skills with clinical placement, provincial veterinary technology associations/regulatory bodies and the onsite Thompson Rivers University Veterinary Technology Program are monitored throughout the course. Veterinary Clinical Work & Correspondence 1 involves entry level competencies in the first year of the Veterinary Technology Open Learning Diploma.

Learning outcomes

Maintain a minimum of 260 hours paid work per semester in a full service Canadian veterinary hospital or clinic.
Confirm required level of professional supervision is present at selected location of clinical placement.
Complete TRU WHMIS & the Veterinary WHMIS Training.
Perform, or demonstrate knowledge of essential skill procedures outlined in VTEC 1101 and VTEC 1593.
Complete and submit the Essential Skills Workbook demonstrating completion of skills outlined in VTEC 1101 and VTEC 1593.
Reflect on skills learned, mentorship and professional communication.

Note: An incomplete or failure in either or both of the two concurrent academic courses taken this term, will result in an automatic incomplete in this Clinical Work and Correspondence course. Any incomplete courses will need to be repeated.

This is a pass/fail course. There are no graded assessments, but students must complete and submit proof of the following:

Prerequisites

Admittance into Semester 1 of the TRU VTEC OL Diploma program

All vaccinations up to date including Rabies vaccine

Co-requisite(s)

Student member in good standing of Provincial Vet Tech Association Regulatory body
