Course Description

Students explore the principles of mechanical systems as they apply to water distribution, including piping, pumps and valves used in water and wastewater treatment facilities. The principles of cross connection control are also covered.

Learning outcomes

  • Identify and describe common piping materials, valves, and accessories.
  • Identify, select, and troubleshoot pumps and pump system components.
  • Install, troubleshoot, and repair pumps.
  • Explain the water distribution system and its operation and maintenance.
  • Address the causes and results of cross connection controls.

Assessments

To complete this course successfully, you must achieve a passing grade of 70% or higher on the overall course and 50% or higher on the mandatory Final Exam.

Students taking this course and applying it towards a Certificate or Water Treatment Diploma must obtain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 based on the TRU vocational grading scale, as well as successfully complete each individual course within the program with a grade of 70% or higher to meet program requirements.
