Course Description

This course offers students an introduction to electrical systems as they apply to the daily operation of water and wastewater treatment processes. Students are introduced to electrical principles, components of electrical systems, operating principles of electric motors, variable frequency drives, advanced motor control and programmable logic controllers.

Learning outcomes

Explain and analyse the electrical principles and components of electrical systems.
Describe the operating principles electric motors and troubleshoot potential problems.
Describe and appraise and function of variable frequency drives.
Explain and troubleshoot advanced motor control.
Examine the principles of programmable logic controllers.

To successfully complete this course, students must achieve a passing grade of 70% or higher on the overall course, and 50% or higher on the final mandatory exam.

Acceptance into either the Water Treatment Technology program or the Water & Wastewater Certificate or Diploma programs.
