Course Description

This course is a continuation of Water Treatment 1. Advanced topics in this course include: water softening; pH control; pre-oxidation; and dissolved metals removal. Students are provided an overview of chemical feed systems and chemical dosage calculations.

Learning outcomes

Explain the basic concepts and processes of coagulation and flocculation at a water treatment facility. Perform coagulation calculations. Understand the dosage requirements for coagulation.
Identify the major issues of coagulation operation, including troubleshooting and solutions.
Explain the importance of pH control in water treatment. Describe Lime, soda ash, caustic soda and C02 systems. Perform calculations for pH control.
Explain the importance of water softening and the processes involved.
Describe the purpose of pre-oxidation in water treatment.
Describe the process for removing dissolved metals in water.
